Downtown Dallas known as Big D is in the central district of Texas. Downtown Dallas got its name because of the downtown freeway loop, which it wrapped around in a bunch of freeways. Downtown Dallas became well known to people because of the President John F. Kennedy assassination. John F. Kennedy and Governor John Connally were shot when their motorcade pass through the Dealey Plaza, now known as West End Historic District. John F. Downtown Dallas has grown in population due to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit. In the year 2000, the population was 14,654 and in year 2010, the population has grown to 29,446. The city has given over $160 million public funds in downtown Dallas to build residential development, which will attract about $650 million in private investors. Downtown Dallas is 1.4 sq. mi in total area not surrounding by any water. This new growth in downtown is a plus because the rainfall is low; around 1-2 inches and the winter snow last 3 months with less than 1.2 inch of snow. Residents don’t really have to worry about floods and the snow damaging their property.
